The coffee business has for many centuries been a brutal business; often the people involved in the production have the most needs but receive the least benefit.  Beyond Beans  Coffee is a different story. Literally every penny of profit from our coffee goes to send a Nicaraguan young person to a Young Life camp. Look at the cost breakdown:

$1.85 Cost to the coffee grower (labor, fertilizer, etc).
$0.35 Mill cost (drying and removing final husk)
$0.20 Shipping cost to US via container
$2.64 Roaster labor cost
$0.50 Packaging cost per lb (bag and label)
$0.40 Web Page/Marketing cost (admin)

So when you buy a bag of coffee for $12.00 Beyond Beans makes $6.06 a lb.
Guess what the cost is of sending a Nicaraguan young person to camp for a day? $8.00!
So one bag of coffee almost covers the camping cost for one kid for one day.
